Animal Mashup

Description

For this project, you'll take 2 animal images and combine them to create a hybrid/mutant/mashup animal (call it what you want - they can range from scary to funny)! If you want, you can combine more than 2, but you need to merge together at least 2 animals. You don't have to worry about copyright for this project, but if you want to publicly share your work, you should use legal images. Feel free to use your own images.

Requirements

  • Submit 1 animal mashup you've created by combining at least 2 images of different animals together.
  • You'll also submit the original photos you used (at least 2).

STEP 1: GET PHOTOSHOP

Install Photoshop on your computer if you don't have it already. You get it for free with your student emails while we're schooling at home.

  1. Go to Adobe's Creative Cloud Website HERE
  2. Sign in with your student email and password.
  3. Once in, you can download and install the software shown. You need Photoshop for this project, but you can install any of the available programs to try out.

STEP 2: FIND PHOTOS

You need to combine at least 2 different animal images. You'll probably want to find two animals that are at least close in color.

Ideas & Tips:

  • Try searching for images on Pixabay.com. Make sure you download the images at the highest resolution (you have to sign up for a free account).
  • Some websites, like Pixabay, will have a download image button. If you're using a copyrighted image, you may need to just right-click on the image and go to Save Image As. Regardless of how you download the image, make sure you save it somewhere on your computer that you'll be able to find, such as on your Desktop or in your Documents folder.

STEP 3: OPEN IMAGES

The computer will probably not open your images in Photoshop by default. Here's how to do it:

  1. Find the images on your computer.
  2. Right-click each of the images, go to Open With > Photoshop

OR

  1. Open Photoshop first
  2. Go to File > Open and find your images

STEP 4: FOLLOW TUTORIAL(S)

You have multiple tutorial options for this project:

Note: if you ever can't find a window or panel you're looking for, go to the top of the screen, click Window, then whichever panel you're looking for, such as Layers.

Also: if you get stuck, you should try googling what you're stuck on. There are soooooo many Photoshop guides - if these are confusing to you, use Google as your personal guide! You can also contact me, obviously. Google will just be faster.

STEP 5: SAVE

When you're working in Photoshop, the app will want to save the file as a Photoshop file or the same type of file. You'll need to submit your files as PNG files. Here's how to do it:

  1. Go to File > Save As...
  2. Under Format, choose PNG
  3. Make sure you're saving it in the folder you want
  4. Click Save
  5. Choose Large file size
  6. Click OK

STEP 6: SUBMIT

To submit your work:

  1. Open the week's assignment in Google Classroom
  2. Click the Add or create button on the upper right-hand side
  3. Choose File
  4. Find the saved images on your computer. You'll probably have to add them one at a time.
    • Note: you need to submit at least 3 images in total, 1 final animal mashup as well as all the original animal images you used (at least 2).
  5. Lastly, click Turn in!
