How-To Video

Description

For this project, you'll create a how-to video. It can show how to do just about anything! You can have your target audience be whomever you'd like, such as little kids, adults, soccer players, or even people stuck at home. Your job is to teach how to do something basic or complicated; it's up to you.

Requirements

  • Submit a video that teaches others how to do something
  • Video should be at least 1 minute long
  • Anything you can do additionally is great, such as adding music or text, but it is not required, since students will have access to different technology.

STEP 1: PLAN

First thing to do is figure out what you're going teach people about. There are a couple of example videos on the right, and here are a bunch of ideas:

How to...

  • Build something
  • Draw/paint/design something
  • Do something, such as hit a home run or knit
  • Make something, such as a scarf or slime
  • Fix something
  • Cook or prepare food
  • Clean a certain item or mess
  • Organize something
  • Makeup/hair/fashion styling
  • Magic trick
  • Win or beat a specific game
  • Use a certain product
  • Cure boredom
  • Start a specific hobby

STEP 2: FILM

Before you start filming, you have some things to think about:

  1. To begin filming, you'll first need to figure out how you'll film your project. You can obviously use a phone, digital camera, or tripod, but feel free to get creative with whatever you have around your home.
  2. Next, you'll probably need to figure out who will film. You may need a family member to film while you perform, or maybe you'll have a family member in front of the camera - it's up to you!
  3. Lastly, you should consider what audio you want recorded. Do you want music recorded during your filming? Do you want to speak during the recording, or record your voice separately? Depending on what audio you want to record, you'll have to consider when and where to film in order to get the best audio.
  4. Once you've figured these details out, film away!

STEP 3: EDIT

Editing your project is not a requirement, but it will definitely enhance your project. Here are some editing options (you don't have to choose one of these, they are just suggestions):

  1. For the fanciest video editing, it's best to install software on your computer. Two free options are: Adobe Premiere Pro or Rush (free for you until the end of the school year - just sign in with your school email and password) and Smoke (always free for students)
  2. Edit on an iPhone/iPad with these free options: Adobe Premiere Rush (3 free exports), iMovie (totally free), Inshot (watch ad to remove watermark), and VLLO (limited features on free version).
  3. Edit on an Android with these free options: Adobe Premiere Rush (3 free exports), VLLO (has ads), InShot (watch ad to remove watermark), and Kinemaster (lots of tools but has watermark)
  4. Edit online in your browser with these free options: ClipClamp (free version only lets you export at low quality) or Online Video Cutter (very basic)

STEP 4: SAVE

No matter which app you're using to edit, save your video file as a .mp4 if possible. Otherwise, .mov is fine. Make sure to save at the highest quality, usually 1080p. The next best option is 720p.

STEP 5: SUBMIT

To submit your work:

  1. Open the week's assignment in Google Classroom (if you did it on your phone, you can do this through the Google Classroom app)
  2. Click the Add or create button on the upper right-hand side
  3. Choose File
  4. Find the final video you saved. Make sure you select the .mp4 or .mov file.
  5. Lastly, click Turn in!

Note: You can add it to your Google Drive first if you want, then add it to the assignment from there. Either way is fine.
